Kodunthirapully Navaratri Festival 2007
Description
It was a every plesant event with even the rain given way for the finish of the festival. On Mahanavami day for the morning pocession, we had Mangalamkunnu Ganapathi being as the the main elephant with Kongadu Kuttishankaran and Cherpulasheri Shekaran coming at right and Shankarankulangara Manikandan and Kuttankulangara Ramadas coming at the left. It was a very fine one with heart filling musical events.
In the evening, when people had doubt on whether the function will be there because of the rain, at sharp 4.00 PM, to everybody's surprise, we saw good sun shine. And we witness a very beautiful functio with Guruvayoor padmanabhan holgin the thidanbu with Nanuezhuthchan Sreenivasan being first right and Mangalamkunnu Ganapathi first left. The function was a very cathcing one with 19 elephants lining up and a colorful Kudamattam (changing umbrella on top of elephant). At 6.30 PM the the function over and with out even a minutes delay, we had the rest part of the rain.

Kerala has more than nine hundred elephants in captivity. Most of them are owned by temples and individuals. They are used for religious ceremonies in and around the temples, and a few elephants work at timber yards. Experts defined the necessary features (Lakshanam) for a good elephant. The sexy features of the elephants are narrated in different books like "Mathanga Leela". They even said, the girls should walk like elephant to get more attraction. ..
