- Long Trunk
The length of the trunk is an important feature of the elephant and it gives more beauty to it.
- Wide Trunk
The width of the trunk is also an important factor. If a long lean trunk will not be a good show.
- Big head
The size of the head is one of the special attraction.
- The Tusk
The tusks should be white....without any scraps.
- Nilavu
Nilavu is very important for elephants in Processions. Nilavu is the ablity of the elephant to hold the lifted head for long time.
- Arc Back born
Back born should have an arc shape with top part having the height of the head.
- Nails
Nails are an important feature of the elephant. Nails should be pure white. 20 nails are the best and 18 nails are good. They must be clear and without cracks
Elephants with 16 nail and 17 nails are not good.
- Vayukumbham
Vayukumbham(forehead bump) must be broad and projecting forwards
- Edaneelam
If an Elephant have required length between his legs, that is a good feature. If that is less, that will affect the movement of the elephant.
- Ears
Ears must be large and during fanning produce a loud flapping sound. It should be without any Scrap or wholes
- Good Character / Behaviour
Good Character or behavior of the elephant is another major thing attracts people to elephant.
- Thalakkuni
Thalakkuni(twin domes on the head) must be big and raised

They are used for religious ceremonies in and around the temples, and a few elephants work at timber yards. Experts defined the necessary features (Lakshanam) for a good elephant. The sexy features of the elephants are narrated in different books like "Mathanga Leela". They even said, the girls should walk like elephant to get more attraction. ..
